What to Expect During a Family Session with Me

If you’re wondering what a family session with me looks like, let me give you a peek behind the scenes—both from my side of the lens and yours!

Why I LOVE Family Sessions

There’s just something special about capturing the joy, hugs, giggles, and in-between moments you share as a family. Whether it’s a tickle fight, a shared laugh, or the way your little one tugs on your hand, these are the moments that matter most—and I live for them.

Family sessions are about freezing this chapter of your life—just as it is. No one needs to be perfect. I’m not looking for stiff poses or forced smiles. I’m looking for the real stuff: the snuggles, the laughs, the way your baby reaches for you or how your toddler leans in for a hug.

How I Prepare as Your Photographer

Before your session even begins, I’m thinking through ALL the little things so you don’t have to. I start by getting to know your family a bit—especially your children’s ages—so I can plan age-appropriate poses and prompts that feel natural and fun. Little ones have short attention spans, and I always build that into our time together.

I also put a lot of thought into light and location. I usually aim for golden hour (1-2 hours before sunset) because it gives us that soft, dreamy glow that makes everything look

Outfits? Yes, I care about those too! I love helping you plan what to wear—because colors, textures, and layers can all make a big difference in how your photos look and feel. Don’t stress—I’m just a quick text away if you need advice! Or click this link to read more. Read here.

What a Session Looks Like for YOU

Now let’s talk about your side of things. I know what it’s like trying to get everyone ready. Trust me—I’m a mama too. There’s always a shoe missing, a shirt with peanut butter on it, and someone who doesn’t want to smile. You’re not alone! 😅

Here are my top tips to make things smooth and stress-free:

  • Feed your kiddos before the session. A full tummy helps everyone stay happy.
  • Pack a snack—but make it a clean one! Think apple slices, small crackers, or fruit snacks. Avoid cheesy chips or chocolate that can smear on faces and outfits.
  • Arrive dressed and ready, or give yourself a few extra minutes if you need to change or fix hair in the car. Coming early means you can relax for a moment before we start.
  • Don’t worry about perfection. Really. If your toddler melts down or someone gets shy, we just roll with it. I’ve seen it all—and we’ll still get beautiful, love-filled photos.

What We’ll Capture During a Family Session with Me

Every session is a little different, but generally we’ll aim to get:

  • 2–3 posed family photos
  • Mom with the kids
  • Dad with the kids
  • Individual portraits of each child
  • The kids together
  • And any other fun combinations we can think of!

We’ll also leave plenty of room for play—running, cuddling, tossing a kid in the air (safely of course 😆), or just sitting and soaking in the moment. These are often the photos that become your favorites.

The Heart Behind It All

Family photos aren’t just pictures—they’re a legacy. A way to look back and remember how this season felt. How tiny their hands were. How they laughed with their whole face. How you held them close and loved them big.

You’ll never regret having these moments frozen in time.

So come ready to love on your people. I’ll take care of the rest. 💛
