This Wellington, Texas, Family Session is still a favorite of mine. Every year, I have the opportunity to travel to Wellington and photograph some beautiful locations. The options are endless here, and I love the results I get every time.

Joanna and I started planning their family session early in the summer. We timed the session according to the peanut field. We wanted half of the session to take place in their peanut field, so we needed that field to be lush and green.

We started the session down by the bridge, capturing a variety of family groupings as well as individual portraits. I love having the updated individual portraits of the children. It’s not that often that you get everyone in front of the camera, so when I do, I like to capture as much variety as possible during the session.

Next, we headed to the peanut field, where we photographed some of my favorite portraits of the evening. The irrigation pivot was lined perfectly with the crop rows, creating a beautiful backdrop for the photos.

Joanna did an excellent job with the color palette for the session, adding textures, minimal prints, and neutral tones to tie it all together. Neutrals are a forever favorite of mine to photograph.

When planning your outfits, consider the location you want to use for the session. You don’t want to blend in with the location, but you don’t want to stand out either.

Planning outfits for the session tends to be the hardest part for most people. But planning ahead gives you time to order or visit a local boutique to shop for the style you are looking for.
