Embracing Imperfect Weather During a Senior Guy Session

Despite cold temperatures and steady rain, Noah’s senior session was genuinely fun to photograph. Weather like this can feel intimidating at first, but sometimes the most unexpected conditions lead to the most memorable images. Two years prior, I had the honor of photographing his sister’s senior portraits, so working with their family again felt incredibly meaningful. Being invited back to document another milestone is always a reminder of how quickly seasons of life pass.

Senior guy sessions are a fun and creative way to show off all the sports they play in. This senior guy is standing in an alley by an old abandoned building. Mary Wiebe Photography. Lubbock Senior photographer.

Are Senior Guys Really Hard to Photograph?

I often hear the phrase, “Guys are hard to photograph.” While there may be some truth to that, I actually enjoy senior guy sessions. I wouldn’t say they’re harder—just different. Senior guy photography is less about elaborate posing and more about intentional simplicity. Unlike senior girl sessions, there aren’t as many pose variations, but that doesn’t mean the images lack depth or personality.

Keeping a Senior Guy Session Simple and Natural

A senior guy session thrives when it’s kept simple. You don’t need dozens of poses ready to go. Instead, it’s about using a few strong foundations, photographing them from different angles, moving in close for connection, and stepping back for wider, environmental portraits. These small shifts help tell a fuller story and keep the session relaxed and efficient.

Starting the Session with Timeless Portraits

Noah’s senior guy session began at the Teichroeb home, where he started off wearing a classic black suit. These portraits felt clean, timeless, and polished—images that will still feel just as meaningful years from now. After capturing a few portraits there, we headed to Childress, Texas, to add variety and personality to his gallery.

Incorporating Athletics Into a Senior Guy Session

We used the basketball and tennis courts to create athletic-inspired portraits that reflected Noah’s interests and high school experience. Including sports elements in a senior guy session adds authenticity, especially for seniors who have dedicated years to their craft. These locations helped tell a more complete story of who Noah is during his senior year.

Documenting the Details That Matter Most

From there, we made our way to the baseball field, where Noah changed into his uniform. We packed a bat, helmet, glove, and baseballs because every detail matters. These weren’t just props—they represented years of commitment, growth, and dedication. Of all the images we captured during his senior guy session, these baseball portraits were my favorites.

Finishing Strong, Even When the Rain Moves In

Our final stop was an alley with an old building where trees had grown right alongside the structure, giving it a textured, almost abandoned feel. Unfortunately, the rain began moving in quickly, cutting our time short. We worked fast, captured everything we needed, and made it back to the vehicle just as the downpour hit.

A Meaningful Senior Guy Session to Remember

Even with unpredictable weather, Noah’s senior guy session came together beautifully. It was a reminder that perfection isn’t found in ideal conditions—it’s found in showing up, embracing the moment, and documenting this season exactly as it is. These images tell the story of Noah’s senior year, and that’s what truly matters.
