When families reach out to me, I always hope for one thing before the session even begins: clear communication. Another element that made this session stand out was the use of a meaningful prop. The old truck Dad brought along isn’t just something that looks good on camera. It’s part of their story. They’ve used it in several sessions before, and it has become a familiar and personal part of their family photos.

In fact, the most meaningful ones are often simple and personal. A vehicle, a blanket, or even a favorite activity can help ground the session in who you are as a family.

Planning for Light, Location, and Flow

Lighting is one of the most important parts of any outdoor session, and it’s something I always plan carefully with my clients. For this session, we talked through the best time to shoot at Mustang Park so the light would be soft and flattering. That planning allowed us to move confidently through the location instead of searching for good light on the spot.

We also made use of the strongest areas of the park rather than trying to shoot everywhere. This keeps sessions relaxed and efficient, especially for families with kids. Fewer transitions mean more time for genuine interaction, laughter, and connection.

Because the family trusted the process and came prepared, we were able to create a variety of images without the session feeling long or overwhelming. The result was a gallery filled with moments that reflect who they are and how they spend time together.
