About 10 years ago, I lost my son, Steven. There is no easy way to say that, so I’m just going to say it plainly, the way I’ve had to learn to say it to myself every single day since. Because He is a part of my story, and he has shaped the person I am today.

Some days are easier than others. But there isn’t a day that goes by that he doesn’t cross my mind, or that my eyes don’t fill with tears over something small. The sound of a dirt bike in the distance. A song. An empty chair at the table. Something reminds me that he is missing.

Grief has a way of showing up in the smallest moments. It has a way of teaching you what actually matters, whether you’re ready for the lesson or not.

And for me, it changed the way I see photographs forever.

Here’s what losing Steven taught me: the photographs matter. Not simply because they’re beautiful, although I hope they are. They matter because one day they may become priceless.

The crooked smile your child makes when they’re trying not to laugh. The way your husband looks at you when he thinks you’re not paying attention.

So I treat every single one like it might be.

My faith is woven into everything I do. I want to serve you with the same grace, compassion, and love Christ has shown me, especially on the days when love is the only thing carrying me through. I want your session to be joyful, easy, and fun because life gives us enough heavy days already.

Another important part of my story has been learning that healing doesn’t mean forgetting. Through the pain, I’ve learned to keep loving. I’ve learned to keep serving. I’ve learned to trust that even when I don’t understand God’s plans, He is still working.

I don’t have every answer, and I probably never will. But I know He continues to work through every season of life.
